The Idea

Consumers have always relied on salespeople and visual estimators (in reality - mobile salespeople) who serve the moving industry to provide them with estimates for their moves.

That reliance constantly puts consumers at risk, since giving precise estimations can never be the primary motivation of moving salespeople, who usually rely on the sale as their only source of personal income. Those biased estimates often lead to lowball quotes, resulting in conflicts between consumers and movers later during and after the move, and are the basis of many moving scams.

Providing consumers with a reliable way to make their own estimations to effectively deal with representatives of moving companies have been a challenge for many years, but elusive nature of the moving process has prevented most from ever trying to build such tool.

Majority of tools available on the web mostly focus long distance moves that are inventory-driven, and do not require complex calculations to estimate the most important parameters of the move. However, long distance moves make up only a small percentage of all moves, with majority being moves within the same geographical area (local moves).

MyMoveCalculator™ was conceived as a solution for millions of people who need to move both locally and across country. Being independent of the movers themselves, this technology presents an unbiased way to calculate your move parameters, and use the results of calculation to negotiate fair terms with the movers.

How We Developed It

Being veterans of the moving industry ourselves, our team includes experienced former moving salespeople, visual estimators, foremen, and a dispatcher, as well as professional mathematicians, software developers, usability specialists, and graphical designers.

Combining all the experience and skills of our team members we spent the last two years developing and perfecting a sophisticated formula. This secret formula takes into account all major and minor aspects of a move, as well as many statistical parameters that allow making highly precise estimates.

The Formula

MyMoveCalculator™'s secret formula eliminates many gross approximations so common in the moving industry, and provides our users with information available nowhere else.

Those are few typical parameters calculated by our formula:

• total time it takes to complete the move (for local moves),
• time it would take to do pick-up and later drop-off (for long distance moves),
• total weight and volume of the shipment,
• total number of movers needed for the move, and type(s) of trucks required,
• types and numbers of packing materials and boxes needed for the move,
• various cost estimates, tips for the movers, and other smaller cost considerations.

In addition, it opens new opportunities for consumers to save on their move. Our users can calculate exactly what types of packing materials they need, and buy them much cheaper than what is usually offered by the movers. Also, it can tell users if moving certain items makes financial sense for their specific move.

Those and many other benefits of the formula make it single most important component of the MyMoveCalculator™ technology and its derived products.

The Products

To put this unique technology to practical use we have designed several useful products, targeting both private consumers and commercial users. Consumer products are offered for free, while most of our commercial applications are planned to be subscription-based.
